Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a unique blend of dance, art, and sport. It combines elements of ballet, modern dance, basic acrobatic skills, and manipulation of five-hand apparatus (rope, hoop, clubs, ball, and ribbon). The essence of Rhythmic Gymnastics is its ability to allow you to express yourself through elegant and graceful movements. This elegance and grace shine from the Rhythmic Gymnast in many ways. Their precision, choreography, flexibility, and presentation awe the viewer like few other sports. The benefits of rhythmic gymnastics for female development are endless. Girls enrolled in a Rhythmic Gymnastics program will demonstrate progress in several key developmental areas including flexibility, grace, balance, strength, agility, hand-eye coordination, and self-confidence.

Preschool rhythmic gymnastics classes, for girls between the ages of 4 and 6 years combine basic movement skills, and basic gymnastics skills with music and dance, creating a fun and engaging environment.  These classes help young girls improve coordination, flexibility, and balance while developing a sense of rhythm and body awareness. The playful use of ribbons, balls, and hoops during classes adds to the excitement and allows girls to explore their creativity and build their confidence. In addition to the physical benefits of these classes, rhythmic gymnastics also promotes teamwork, discipline, and focus.

Beginner  (Level 1 - 3 / Flexi Kidz)

Beginner rhythmic gymnastics classes follow the rhythmic gymnastics novice program of Gymnastics South Africa, combined with the Flexi Kidz program designed by Dr Ninette Thiart. These programs emphasize the development of FUNdamental skills (flexibility, strength, and coordination) in alignment with the Long Term Athletes Development model. Gymnasts can move freely between recreational and slightly more competitive paths, allowing them to explore their potential without pressure. Whether enjoying gymnastics for fun or competition up to the provincial level to earn their provincial colors the focus remains on personal growth to ensure a positive experience for every gymnast.

Recreational (Level 4 - 10)

These gymnasts follow the Gymnastics South Africa program which aligns with the "Learn to Train," "Train to Train," and "Train to Compete" phases of the long-term athlete development model. This program helps gymnasts build advanced skills, discipline, and performance readiness. Gymnasts can choose to participate individually or in groups. The program emphasizes steady development, ensuring that gymnasts grow physically, emotionally, and mentally while preparing those who compete to perform at their best in the regional, provincial, and national competitions.

High Performance

Gymnasts are selected for high-performance levels based on their physical abilities, dedication and potential. However, gymnasts can move freely between high-performance and recreational levels, depending on their physical, emotional and mental readiness. High-performance gymnastics requires rigorous training, precision, and consistency, with a focus on advanced skills and competition at national or international levels. The flexibility to shift between levels ensures that athletes can maintain a healthy balance, prioritizing both their well-being and long-term development while striving for personal excellence.
